SOMBER NEWS FROM FRANK COLLINS: Usually, this blog is upbeat. Out with the politics, in with the laughs. But, its not all nonsense - we do try to "keep it real." Today, it is real.

It gets real when we get sad news, like the death of a brother, or loss of a brother’s loved one. We’re at that age when death happens, or we face tragedy, or have a close friend face a tragedy. Many of us are parents, with our kids in college. For those of us who are parents, we know that no one should have to face the heartache of losing a child. Our children should outlive us - no parent should have to bury their child.

Well, my heart sank when I got this note from Frank Collins collinzes@yahoo.com , regarding his friend Bob Carson:

"Larry:

I just realized that the father of the young woman who was murdered at UNC is Bob Carson. Bob was a Kappa Sig, a formidable foe on the basketball court, a hall mate in Barnard in 1972, and a very nice guy. He lives in Athens GA. His daughter Eve was the president of the UNC Student Body. She was murdered last week.

We should ask all of our ATO brothers to keep Bob and his family in their prayers.

I did not know Bob Carson, but he was a friend of Frank’s. I do remember his face, seeing him around on campus. It is unimaginable how much pain and heartache he must be going through - God bless him and his wife and family as they try to cope with the murder of their beautiful daughter.

On behalf of ATO, Beta Pi Chapter, our prayers go out to Bob Carson and his family, that the Lord comfort them and keep them in their time of need. I can’t think of a time when a parent would need God’s mercy and grace more than suffering the loss of a child.
