Response to the Beta Pi e-mail blog has been overwhelming! The Beta Pi e-mail I sent on July 26th really shook the earth. Here is the story.

I was replying to Brother Jim Grissett, telling him about the amazing story of our own Brother Mark "Marlon" McGann, and I included a remembrance of Alex. Out of the blue, Venerable Brother Matt "Dr. Phibes" Hart surfaced with a terse (but kind) response, upon reading the following, (which is an excerpt of Beta Pi, Vol. 2006, No. 11):

"Remember, how awesome it felt right before dinner, when Alexander Wilson would lead us in prayer?

Lord of Mankind, Master Divine,

Keep us pure in heart and mind.

And so that we may know thee,

Thy presence show,

Guard and guide us, ATO.

Here is a photo I have of Alex, attached. Be well."

Matt wrote to me, saying this bit about Alex moved him to respond, and he graciously provided me with leads on several brothers. I have written to these brothers, and today I can announce that Venerable Brother Pierce Hodnette has surfaced as a direct result of Matt's help! A big thanks to Matt!

Thanks for setting me straight on Marlon, and thanks for the nod to "Bozo." That nickname, Buck Biller morphed it into "Dozo" because I slept through so many classes, but my favorite was the Matt Hart variant "Bozino."

On your word, I'll enter a correction, to hereafter list Marlon as "Grissett protege Marlon McGann."

Hey, if you did not know, let me tell you a true story about a miracle - Marlon has survived a very rare form of cancer (that is clinically unbeatable) - our own Marlon is literally a walking miracle. He needs our continuing prayers - I have been praying for him, and I hope you will too.

Speaking of prayers, and since ATO is in fact a Christian Fraternity, it is appropriate to use this venue to say a prayer now and then, when there's a need. Don't get me wrong - no proselytizing - I am the biggest sinner I know. Buck Biller reminds me of that often.

Marlon has access to a certain audio clip, reportedly the voice of Matt "Dung" Yonge ordering "food", which he claims to have obtained from the Vinny Starr Audio Vault (Vinny was perhaps the only VU student who had a "code-a-phone" as it were, and Vinny preserved all his messages for posterity). I am not attaching this clip, due to certain FCC Regulations prohibiting obscenity over the internet, but I invite you to contact Marlon at markmcgann@prodigy.net, I'm certain he'll send it to you (and I also fear Marlon, and Vinny will be facing 3 to 5 at Leavenworth . . .).

I'm talking gut-wrenching laughs here.

APUS Airways Adds Matthew Hart to Board

US Airways Adds Matthew Hart, Hilton President and Former America West Director, to Board


TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -- US Airways Group Inc. on Wednesday appointed Matthew J. Hart to fill a vacant seat on its board of directors.

Hart, president and chief operating officer of Hilton Hotels Corp., is a former board member of America West Airlines, which merged last year with US Airways.

Hart, 54, will serve on the board's audit committee.

US Airways shares closed down 74 cents at $47.30 on the New York Stock Exchange.
