Beta Pi Blog, Vol.2010, No,10 - Strong Arm Tactics

Beta Pi:
IS BETA PI BLOG WITHOUT ANY REDEEMING SOCIAL OR ARTISTIC MERIT?:

YEA . . . . or

NAY?

Beta Pi Blog exists for one reason: to bring ATO, Beta Pi Chapter Brothers together. The blog does not take itself very seriously - it is meant for fun, and therefore is non-political. It includes

pictures, links, Archives of previous issues, and other time-wasters. To get there, go to web address: http://beta-pi-blog.blogspot.com .

STRONG ARM TACTICS: This story caught my attention.

This actual news story was on the internet:

Forensic testing of more than 80 Roman-era skeletons unearthed in York, England, indicates that the athletic young men with well-developed right arms had been gladiators. Some of the bodies had been decapitated and had received hammer blows to the head. One of the bones also showed evidence of a bite from a large carnivore, such as a lion, tiger, or bear. “We don’t have any other potential gladiator cemeteries with this level of preservation anywhere else in the world,” said a noted archeologist.

So, MARLON, you see where this is going, right? You’ve got 80 ancient gladiators, all with super strong right arms. Evidence of hammer blows to the head, one with carnivore bite wounds. Gladiators, but no explanation offered for all of them having super strong right arms. An archeological mystery?

Not for Beta Pi Blog. One need simply consult the annals. Tick-a-lor history is replete with evidence of young men with well-developed right arms. No mystery. Excessive, (some might say compulsive) repetitive motion with the right arm (and hand) - let’s see. For a fact, there is one Tick-a-lor who was literally named for this phenomenon: none-other-than

The Mighty . . . ROD . . . YANKER!

That is not some fake name, like Pete N. Espanz,

Willie Stroker,

or Matt Starbader, Colonel Lingus, or even Phil A. Cheerio.

No Sir, Rodney Yanker, Class of 1980 is a real person, and ATO is honored to have him!

And, there were several guys before Rod’s time (Class of 80), most notably the Shwimbags,

Lee Hall,

Marlon,

M-Link, and of course

The Mighty

Lurch,

whose right-arm strength was matched by none. HAAA! Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

REUNION / HOMECOMING UPDATE: For those of you who have not been to Reunion. It’s simple.

Friday Night - Class Party. Saturday Afternoon - Tailgate & Homecoming Game. Saturday Evening - the 4th Annual ATO Dinner, 7:30 p.m., at Cabana. After that, Roam-Campus-Parties-till-you-drop.

Cabana was such a big hit

last year (good food, good drink, Tales accommodated) - we have already booked Cabana as the Official ATO Dinner Venue.

One answer: will you commit to this program? This is not a drill, soldier . . .

Consider that J.D. - still to this day - lives with his Mother, and refuses to get a computer or e-mail, or otherwise join the 21st Century. Commitment can be a scary thing, for a guy with chronic Peter Pan Syndrome.

It is scary, I know, and crying towels are available in the lobby - it has been 35 years.

Here are the brave souls who have committed, thus far . . .

FROM FRANK BILLER, June 18, 2010:

"Dear Larry,
After reading brother Marty's musings on Rena, I recalled two random posts I made on my Facebook page.

In both cases achetypal images of our beloved Rena were shrouding my Pinot Noir addled brain as her shadow whispered musing's in my ear (with respect and all apologies to The Almighty):

God in his infinite wisdom created Woman. And he made us desirous of her in that we would be moved to build and grow and gather that we might win her favor. And so is the wellspring of progress and civilization of the humankind. FJB Des Moines, IA 2010

God in his infinite wisdom created woman to vex and confound man. Then he created Beer and Food to confuse us. Now he has created Lady Gaga. Will this torment never end? FJB Des Moines, IA 2010

The later post was written in a small village in Northern France about 2 weeks ago. It was about 1:00 AM. I was drinking French country red wine and watching videos of Lady Gaga's new smash hit "Telephone" featuring her pal Beyonce.

You can't make this kind of stuff up.

Buck"

TO BUCK: My friend, you are a spiritual poet. May God bless and have mercy on us all.

YES - FROM CLARK THOMAS, June 23, 2010:

"Hey, sorry I've not commented. That seems SO far out in the future that I can barely relate to it.

Will definitely come to the Reunion... so may the ATO portion would be fun too. Although you know
that I was never much of an ATO. Left to edit the Commodore junior
year, then Chancellor Heard
hired me to work part time for the university during my senior year.
Still feel a strong connection to
you and John Stein. Does that count? -Clark"

TO CLARK: WO! Clark - I'm not the decider, I don't decide what counts, I'm just Bozo. I put my panties on backwards just like the next girl. The day you pledged ATO it was forever decided. I'm looking forward to seeing you and Boss!

"In case any of my boys are interested in hearing what a steak sounds like, they can go to www.radiosandysprings.com this Saturday, June 26th at eleven am. I host The Master Gardener Hour and have a wonderful interview with a Phd in Clinical Psychology who teaches out of Emory Un. But she is also a Master Beekeeper and is a mentor to thousands of people in that world through her website. Anyway, thought you might have fun listening and learning. Rena"

YES - FROM LEE HALL & MRS. LEE, June 24, 2010:

"Larry-

He checked his schedule and is not working that weekend, but he does not have Friday off. (Kind of key.) The final work week schedule for October won't come out for a while, and what he told me was IF he could finagle Friday off, he would come to the reunion. I don't know how soon he will know about the Friday...so put him down as a possible. Is there a deadline?

As for me.......I don't know. I might come if you guys are planning to fill a basement somewhere with water and jump naked into it, just so I can watch the spectacle.

Mrs. Lee"

TO MRS. LEE: You got my attention - come "as you are" but tell Lee to pack a swimsuit! HAA!
