Beta Pi Blog, Vol.2008, No.53 - How to Post a Comment

Beta Pi:

IS "BETA PI BLOG" JUNK E-MAIL?: Yes, and no! It is not this e-mail. This e-mail contains some written content of the "Beta Pi Blog", not the entire content. The "blog" is actually a web-site, it includes pictures, links, Archives of previous issues, and other time-wasters. THE BLOG HAS MOVED TO A NEW ADDRESS. To get there, go to web address: http://beta-pi-blog.blogspot.com/ .

After the Blog moved from AOL to BLOGSPOT, I had a few guys ask me how to post comments. So I enlisted the help of the gadget guru himself, that King of Technology Steven Starr.

You’ll remember that Vinny was the only one of us who had a "code-a-phone" (we used to give him endless s_ _ t for not returning calls. Turns out he saved all of those obscene voice messages, transferred them to a CD, and brought them to a Reunion a few years ago, hilarious!)

- and later Vinny went on to become a King of Office Technology when he took over his family office machines business. And of course, Vinny being the faithful James Bond fan - all of which qualifies him for the title "Blog Technology Editor."

I asked Vinny to log on, and attempt to post a comment. He did so, and sent me this "How-to" which is reprinted as follows:

HOW TO POST COMMENTS
By Vinny Starr, Blog Technology Editor

"Larry,

I posted a comment on the most recent blog entry. It was pretty easy BUT, several comments.

1. It took me a while to figure out how to access the comment page. I guess you have to click on the X comments line at the bottom of the blog entry. There is no place where it explicitly says "enter a comment". You may need to point this out, so people know.

2. When you get to the comment screen, you have to enter a word verification test, which I found doesn't work with the Firefox web browser but it does with the Internet Explorer browser. Don't know about the Apple browser.

3. You should let people know that they do not have to start an account or anything but where it says choose an identity they can just pick "Name/URL" and put in any name (preferable their own or their ASO nickname).

That's all.

Vinny"
* * *

Thanks to Vinny!

To sum it up, go to the bottom of the blog entry, click on "Comments", type in the word-verification "test" and enter your name and password of your choice. Its that simple.

BETA PI BLOG ROSTER STATS: As of November 12, 2008, the Blog roster stands at 90 Beta Pi brothers, 82 Tick-a-lo men online who have e-mail addresses, and __ ATO Girlfriends-o-Yore. If you have an e-mail address on a Brother, or sister - fugetaboutit!

FROM FRANK BILLER, November 13, 2008:
Leave it to Larry to show a pic of Vinnie (in long standing Tic tradition) snaking the only date I ever had at VU.

Note to Aber, Boss, Claude Cody, Heme, Cheeks, George Loo, et. al. Damn, you guys look old! (Except Cheeks, you look great "Oh Great Cheekun").

You guys were scary and our idols/role models. George Joe was the only guy I wasn't scared to death of. Claude was like a Walker Texas Ranger guy (what ever happened to your dog Emil and your hottie GF Barbara Glenn?), Heme and Aber were crazy football guys (come on, Heme had the "Dog Pile" remnamed in his honor!), Cheeks was a crazy football guy/Baptist Minister (Cheeks- did you marry Kimmie Wilhelm?). And "The Boss"- the original- fugettabout Bruce Spirngsteen- John Stein is/was and always will be the Boss.

I am sorry I could not get down to see you guys. You are the immortals and will forever be remembered in the anals (sic). I love all my ATO brothers but I have a special soft spot for your class (and DW Wilson and Mansfield). You set the standard. We just tried to live up to it.

I love you guys!
Buck

FROM JOHN STEIN, November 13, 2008:

Hey Buck,

Thanks for the overly reflective words. As always, you are one silver tongued son of a gun.

We missed you down here. But, we are all delighted that you are happy and healthy. All the best , my friend. jfs

FROM GEORGE TOMLINSON, November 13, 2008:

Buck,

We missed you. The “mugs” were as old and scary as ever, but the people never change. ( We just got the older version.) Many stories and catching up was done, and if this ever occurs for another class and deemed appropriate to invite our class, we will be happy to “make an appearance”. Those were times that will survive in infamy.

All the Best,

George Tomlinson

FROM MARK REED, November 13, 2008:

Buck, you are kind to the "older generation"!! John Stein's accessment is absolutely correct, Heme is timeless and priceless. It was a blast being with all my ATO brothers.

The guy who gets the credit is Larry for getting this crazy email/blog going, which set the stage for some of these great gatherings. Thanks Larry!! Great being with Larry and his lovely bride, Ann. It was wonderful being with the "brothers" and reliving old times and seeing spouses, those who were able to be there. And yes Buck, I did marry Kimey Wilhelm and we have 3 great kids, all adults, and one future Commodore grandson by our oldest daughter, Brook, Vandy Class of 2000. Kimey was unable to attend but sent her love to all the guys she "wenched" for late our senior spring semester.

The current ATO's have lost the art of "Tales". I went to the Tic house with "The Boss" and his absolutely stunning bride, Beth, on Friday nite. We were inquiring when the "tales" game would commence. To which they responded, "we know of the game but no one knows how to play". Maybe a weekend could be identified for a "reunion" of the old guys to teach the youngsters a wonderful tradition...

I love all my ATO brothers, except maybe...just kidding,

The Amazin Cheekun...Mark Reed"

TO AMAZING CHEEKUN: You are welcome my friend, it was an honor to be part of such an illustrious band of Potentates! What a blast it was sharing a meal together at Rumba! Whenever you are in Nashville, I hope you call me.

"Aber will be glad to attend a Wales Tales game at the house, and take Wimp's spot in the roster and puke in the can. From one of the worst players of all time, Aber.

PS: But I loved to drink"
