Beta Pi Blog, Vol.2007, No.24 - Blues & Arms Aylward

Beta Pi:

As you may know, Bob "Arms" Aylward recently reminded me that he has Delta roots, having been born and raised in Pace, Mississippi, which is only 40 miles from Clarksdale (See Bob’s comment in Archives, Vol.2007, No.20).

BLUES & ARMS AYLWARD: So, today I stopped in to my old law office to pick up mail, and I get this package from Bob Aylward containing a handwritten note:

"Larry -

Since you plan on spending time in the Delta, I thought the attached magazine might be of interest. Maybe you could join the Delta Center. Enjoy

Arms Aylward"

Here’s my e-mail response to my old friend Arms:

"Bob:

I checked my old office (the office I moved out of 5 years ago) and I still get some mail there, although mostly junk mail. (My new mailing address is 214 Second Avenue North, Ste. 400, Nashville, TN 37201).

I was pleased to get the package you sent to me, with Delta Center for Culture & Learning Magazine. Thanks Bob, I will enjoy reading this.

Very thoughtful of you to send this. I was just there this past weekend, working on my building. I have a tenant in the front (that means positive cash flow) and the apartment in the rear will be ready for us to stay in for Sunflower Blues Festival in August. Why don't you and the Missus join us?

VTL,

Larry"

BLOG ROSTER UPDATE: I have a working roster totaling 75 Beta Pi brothers, a/k/a Tick-a-lors. 62 have e-mail addresses, and are on this Blog. Van Sayler is Worthy Keeper of the E-mail Address List, see Van’s Webpage (link on right). {David Howe is deceased, but I still carry his e-mail address, because David’s widow, Dara, told me she still gets David’s e-mail.} There are 12 brothers for whom I have no e-mail, but only a phone number or address, and for some I do not even have a phone number. I value your assistance in contacting these brothers - and if you get their e-mail address, please let me know, so I can electrocute them with this blog. Here are the unknown soldiers:

E-MAIL FROM STEVE CUMMINGS, April 24, 2007:
"Larry-

Did you ever have any luck contacting Steve Chesney?  Attached is the last info I had for him.  I believe he turned into quite the nomad…

Steve"

MY RESPONSE TO SCUMMINGS:
"Steve:
I have not talked with Steve Chesney, although his e-mail address is linked up:  smchesney@hotmail.com

Hey, this year is your Reunion year - Class of 1977, Reunion is October 2007.  Chesney is one of your classmates.  You guys should be in touch with Van Sayler, who is rounding up guys.  So far, I am aware that Van Sayler, you and Mark McGann are attending.  I will be there, and Frank J. Biller has vowed to attend if Marlon attends, and it is official, Marlon will be attending.  Looking forward to seeing you.

FROM MARK McGANN, April 25, 2007:
"here I come.  I have actually booked a flight arriving Oct. 11 departing Oct. 14.  I don't suppose that I need to be in a huge hurry to actually register for reunion?  I'm looking forward to it my brother.  By the way, are you familiar with a stringed instrument called the Kora?  Look it up on Wikipedia, it's pretty cool.  If you go to Amazon and search the name Toumani Diabate you can listen to some samples of the music, could be the next reggae.

M"

MY RESPONSE TO MARLON & BUCK BILLER:
Marlon & Buck:
Marlon, I am not familiar with a Kora.  Does it have a shape conducive to me using it to El-Kabong Frank Biller's head if he doesn't live up to his vow to show up at Reunion , now that you are a confirmed show?
