Beta Pi Blog, Vol.2006, No.02 (June 30, 2006) - Honoring J.D. Strickland

Beta Pi:
You've heard the old saying:

"That ought to shine a light up your a_ _!"

Well, next time you hear that (or say it to someone), perhaps you'll find the image of that poor b_ _ _ _ard with the "light bulb" problem amusing!

Update: I talked to J.D. Strickland. He is well, says hi! J.D. does not have a computer, so you should call him.

J.D. Strickland: 256-739-4931

If you have e-mail addresses for Beta Pi's not listed above, please get them to me so I can expand our network.

VTL,

Neal:

Great to hear from you!  We have much to catch up on.

Here is the micro version of my existence.  I'm happy married (second marriage) to Ann Polk (VU Nursing School, 1976).  My son Andrew just graduated from University of Memphis!  He is a working professional bassist (he majored in music, plays jazz, classical, rock, blues, you name it, on either upright double bass or one of several electric bass guitars).  He also tends bar part-time.  I'm very proud of him.

I'm a lawyer.  I still play blues guitar (for fun), and I still write poetry.  Two of my poems were published in an anthology from a local poetry venue, Windows on the Cumberland, entitled "Something we cannot Name."   Someday, my book of poetry will be published (my goal).

Neal, your invite to Thailand sounds great!  Perhaps a troop of ATO's can make the journey.

You are hereby summoned to the next VU Reunion in 2010.  Be there (please).

Larry:

How are you doing?

I sent the abridged version of my doings to Tison as I am unsure whether or not these e-mails are secure from prying eyes...

If you want the unabridged version, send me a secure e-mail address...

Togo sucks! The people are generally OK to work with, but the country is so poor that the poverty is absolutely depressing.

I surely do miss Thailand... I should return there some time in December. I am expecting a number of friends in January for a week of house warming, jamming, recording and generally riding motorcycles, lying around my pool and drinking beer. Perhaps you, Tison and any of the other brothers who would like to see the REAL Thailand will join us? You're wlcome to stay with us, thus eliminating any pesky hotel bills. My pool is nice - 4 mtr deep diving area with 25 mtr long swim lane. Udon Thani is a wonderful place. Sorta like a Thai style Huntsville, AL...

I am in a band there and had a band at my post in Manila. We did some recording in Manila on a laptop digital recording studio rig... Send me your mailing address and I'll send you a CD. It's got plenty of warts but also some really blistering guitar work. It's generally blues rock, but has a killer version of Little Wing on it. Are you still playing?

I bought an entire digital recording studio set up and will assemble and commission it when next I am back 2 Thailand.

Join me.
