PHIBES SURFACES
So, a few weeks or so ago, I get this email from Matt “Are you ready?”
“I have assembled some still photos from my collection of early 70's Kodak Super 8 movies. Here are some of the Categories available… Early Days, Gal Pals, Weed Nation, Famous Couples, I love my ATO Brothers. What would you like to see, Worthy BlogMaster?
I was, of course astounded! I quickly replied to Matt to send me all of it.
What he sent me is utterly . . . “spectacular!” Matt has sent me around 65 pictures, stills he has painstakingly captured from his Super8 movies, which he has organized into 12 categories.
Well . . . 65 pictures in 12 Categories is way too much to put up at once, we need to make it a Feature, and release them over several episodes. Blog Consultant Vinny Starr concurred. So, the Blog is debuting a few of these categories today, and others will be posted one or two at a time, in upcoming Blogs, this feature will be known as . . . wait for it . . . “Phibes Philms” - a name Matt himself bestowed. Note: Since these pictures are captured from Super8 movie film, some are a little blurred, but the Tick Historical value outweighs the blur.
NOW THAT MATT has opened this can of Tickledom. . . let it be known, he cannot escape his obligation to show up for Reunion 2024.
Matt, your timing is excellent, these come at the right time. The Blog, and interest in returning for Reunions, took a big hit with the Pandemic. Not to mention we are aging . . . yeah. These pictures provide a much-needed shot of inspiration!
On behalf of the Beta Pi Blog Editorial Board (the Three Stooges), thanks to Matt for sharing
these before we are all 6 feet under.
I asked Matt if he would include captions for each picture, he declined.
Here are the first two Tick Time Capsules, never heretofore seen by humanoids… and the Debut of the newest Beta Pi Blog Feature . . .

HERE IS OUR ATO REUNION AGENDA:
As is our tradition, the ATO events will happen as follows:
Friday afternoon, November 3rd, 1:30 p.m. – VISIT ALEX & LAURA’S GRAVES.
Come 15 or 20 minutes early, meet at the House, take a few pictures, then we will caravan to Nashville National Cemetary. Claude Cody started this tradition. We will remember Alex & Laura, and we have a new tradition started last year – “Reading of the Names” – we pass a list of the names of all of our Brothers passed away, and each guy reads a name, and everyone has opportunity to speak about that Brother, then the list is passed, and so on. I had several guys tell me afterwards that this was very meaningful to them.
(Parking suggestion: with all the Construction, you might park across the street from The House, in front of the Bookstore. Go in and buy a book, Vandy souvenir or beverage, then come over to the House. That parking lot is an excellent launch pad. The drive out to the Cemetery is about 25 minutes, even in light traffic, so we plan to leave promptly at 1:30 . . . Wagon Train.)
Friday evening – Class Parties followed by Big Tent All Clash Bash (or not, who knows?).
Saturday, November 4th, Homecoming Game. (Time, t.b.a.)
Saturday evening following the Game
– ATO
Cocktail Party & Dinner.
Date: November 4, 2023
Time: approximately 7:00 pm, depending on Game time.
Place: AMERIGO WEST END AVENUE
THE NAPA ROOM
1920 West End Avenue
Nashville, TN 37203
Booked for 7:00 p.m.
to 9:00 p.m.
Thanks to John Stein, Steve Starr
and Frank Biller for helping in the selection of this venue. We wanted something very close to campus,
with good food, and we got it!
