Movie Review – “The Rider”

By Lawrence A. Simons

I’m no movie critic, but there is a movie that is so different, and so good, I had to write about it.  Ann found it, and brought it to my attention, it is called “The Rider.”

It is about a champion Rodeo Rider who gets injured, it has beautiful horses, awesome Rodeo action, beautiful scenic vistas with wild horses – but none of that is what the move is actually about.  If I say much more, it will spoil the impact of it.

The movie received three nominations for American Spirit Awards.  We went to see it because we love Westerns, and as you know we have a small farm in Dickson with 3 horses, and I love horses, I love everything about them.  And, that would have been reason enough, but as I said, we were blown away by what the movie is actually about, so I recommend it whole heartedly.

THE BUCK BILLER SPORTS PAGE
By Frank J. Biller, Beta Pi Blog Sports Correspondent

VU had a huge weekend at Clemson and won the regional playoff on their way to the College World Series.  They will play again next weekend in the Super Regional.  Here’s what I got….

Vanderbilt boasted the #1 rated incoming freshman baseball class this year.  Their inexperience has shown at times.  The Vandy Boys struggled during the heart of the SEC season and made an early exit in the SEC tournament. But, they are hitting their stride just in time for the big dance in College baseball.

Connor Kaiser led the Vandy Boys to a 19-6 shellacking of the Clemson Tigers to with the Clemson Regional for the second year in a row.  Kaiser tied and NCAA record with 10 RBI on 3 homeruns in the final rout.  Vandy hit an NCAA record tying 9 homeruns in the game.  Vandy advances to the Super Regional playoff series with Mississippi State next week at the  Hawk.

After VU dispatches the Bulldogs, they will advance again to the College World Series tournament in Omaha, Nebraska.  I will be in attendance.

Anybody up for a road trip, cheap hotels, lots of beer and a sunburn???  Sounds like Spring Break redux…
