Beta Pi Blog, Vol.2017, No.04 – Young & Dung Reunited!

Beta Pi:

IS  BETA PI BLOG without any redeeming social or artistic merit?:

YEA .   .   .   . or

NAY?

Beta Pi Blog’s purpose: to bring ATO, Beta Pi Chapter Brothers and ATO Gal-Pals together.  The blog is not to be taken seriously - it is meant for fun.

THE YOUNG & DUNG REUNIFICATION!

So, I was talking to the great Hill Turner, and Matt Yonge’s name (of Young & Dung fame) came up – and Hill just happened to have Dung’s phone number . . .WOW!  This is a BIG find (we have been sniffing around for Dung since 2006, with no luck).

So Hill gives me Dung’s number, and I get to thinking . . . who better to make the “cold call” to Dung, after all these years than Leapin’ Gene Young?  So I passed the number on to Leapin’ Gene.  A few weeks later, Gene sends me this:

“Talked to Matt. He definitely would like to come, and receive the blog.  He is not sure he can get away, but will try.    hmyonge@hmyace.com Thanks again, Gene.”

So, without further “to-do” . . . Beta Pi Blog welcomes . . . the act you’ve known for all these years, the one, the only MATT “DUNG” YONGE!

For those who don’t know, Gene and Matt were best buds back in the day, and constantly hanging out together.

I think it was Frank Biller who noticed these guys were “joined-at-the-hip” as they say, and nick-named them “Young & Dung” which generated much amusement.

Matt, many of the guys have asked about you, we are really glad to finally have you on the radar, and look forward to seeing you!  Thanks to Hill Turner and Gene Young for the assist.

Little Did We Know . . .
By Frank J. Biller

Little did we know…

I have uncovered some shocking information about several members of the Vanderbilt Class of ’74/ATO Pledge Class of ‘70.  Little known photos have surfaced positively identifying noted Tic brothers

Tom Lovinggood,

Pierce Hodnette and

Tim Stryker . . .

as members of the original 1960’s “Detroit Wheels” band famous for their back up of Detroit favorite son and original blue-eyed soul singer Mitch Ryder.  Mr. Ryder (nee William S. Lavise, Jr.) and his “future Tic” mates are famous for their rousing 60’s hits “Jenny Take a Ride”, “Sock It to Me Baby”, “Devil with a Blue Dress On” and “Little Latin Lupe Lou” among others.

Early images of Lovinggood, Hodnette and Stryker are clearly visible on the obscure album cover for Mr. Ryder’s 1964 European Limited Release album “Rev Up” shown below.  Mr. Ryder was recently inducted into 2017 Class of the R&B Hall of Fame during a gala at the Knights of St. Mickey’s Bar and Bowling Alley in downtown Fairlane, MI.  Rumors of Lovinggood and Hodnette’s attendance were not confirmed by R&B HOF promoter Geri Aldini.  Aldini declined to “comment on private matters regarding talent”.  Messrs. Ryder, Lovinggood and Hodnette were not available for comment regarding long standing intra-band squabbles over royalties at the time of this report.  Mr. Stryker’s whereabouts are unknown.

Your intrepid investigative Brother,

Buck
