THE BUCKO SPORTS PAGE
By Frank J. “Buck” Biller

“At Vanderbilt, we do not rebuild.  We just reload.”

We all had that sick feeling in our gut that defeat had been snatched from the jaws of victory once again.  Just when we thought we were getting over the hump, Franklin bolts and we have visions a paunchy old grey haired guy that wants to run the wing T and couldn’t even convince his own kid to come play football for us.

50 more years of 2-10 seasons just around the corner…

Coach Poach” is stealing our top recruits…

Oh, Woe is us…

Well, News Flash to the Vandy Nation….

WE ARE OVER THE HUMP.  Get over it.  WE have a solid football program and it is just going to get better.

James Franklin is a fine young coach that did a terrific job in getting us started and getting everyone in the Vandy Nation to believe in ourselves.  I will always cherish the turnaround that Franklin implemented and the 4 great years of football we have enjoyed.  I wish Coach Franklin all the best luck at the State College of Pennsylvania.  The job is in his home state and should be a great lifetime position for him.

David Williams only needed a week to land one of the top coaching candidates in the country.  And why not?  We are a long time member of the top College football conference.  We are located in a world class city.  We are one of the top educational institutions in the world.  We had over 30 top candidates APPLY for the job.  AND…

We have a winning program!  Coach Franklin took some recruits with him.  That is just part of the system and nothing unusual.  Coach Mason will bring a few with him too.  The thing we have to remember is that our last 3 recruiting classes have been the best ever year after year.  Coach Mason has a good core that Coach Franklin did not have.  He has a great story to tell on the recruiting trail.

Are we going to contend for the national championship next year?  No.  But we are no one’s doormat ever again, forever.

See you at next year’s Bowl Game.

Buck

ACTIVE CHAPTER UPDATE:

Beta Pi Blog is committed to keeping the DOUBLE SECRET PROBATION assault by Vanderbilt Behemoth honcho’s alive.  WHY?  In December,  Mike McCarty and I had discussions with Mr. Wynn  Smiley, CEO of ATO National, regarding the Active Chapter Suspension, which was triggered by the naughty and prurient e-mail sent out the Rush Chair.  The Actives chose not to appeal the suspension.  However, in the run up to the appeal deadline, we pressured Mr. Smiley to renegotiate with Dean Bandas, in an effort to turn around the suspension.

Here is the compromise Wynn Smiley worked out with Dean Bandas:  The Chapter remains suspended, with a chance to recruit a new Pledge Class this Spring!  This Spring 2014, ATO National will be working with the Sophomores to reorganize new leadership, and Mr. Smiley said if they can demonstrate “an ability to operate effectively” in the eyes of Dean Bandas, then, the suspension might be lifted to allow them to recruit for a Spring Pledge Class in 2014.  That is WAY better than the flat suspension, which would have meant NO new pledge class in 2014, period.

So, we will continue to watch and learn.

As to our de-gifting campaign.  We spoke out, and we were heard.  My gut feeling is that our campaign to "communicate" our displeasure to Vanderbilt needs to continue, for the time being, to see if the Active Chapter is reinstated this Spring.  Vanderbilt needs to know that we have the backs of the Active Chapter. And we need to keep the campaign until the Vanderbilt PC Jack-boot is removed from the throats of the Actives.

Here is the updated list of Alums who have committed to stop giving money to Vanderbilt:ere is the updated list of supportive ATO Alums.  We SHALL be heard, SO SAYS
